Summer Book Club

The CVM Teaching Academy continues the "Teaching Tool Kit Series" this summer in a slightly modified fashion.
We know many of us who have been up to our necks in the COVID-19 teaching adaptions and are exhausted. However, we want to use our summer CVM TA Teaching Toolkit series to share some specific lessons learned with socially distanced teaching. This seems timely as there is a very good chance we will be doing more of the same during the next year.
Experts tell us that one of the most powerful faculty development tools is just getting highly motivated educators together in a room to talk about teaching and learning – i.e. to share their ideas and practices. So let’s do it! Via ZOOM, of course.
What socially distanced teaching and learning felt like to me (Steve Lampa’s word cloud):

THE PLAN:
We will start with 1-2 informal and collaborative sessions where we will just share some of our approaches using Zoom meetings.Questions to discuss:
- What did you do?
- What seemed to work well?
- What did not work as well?
- What ideas do you have for improvement?
If you’re interested in sharing an approach, please email Steve Hines and Rachel Halsey so we might start to put together an initial rotation and get off to a good start. Again, we expect to have additional opportunities to present and are developing a weekly schedule.
EXAMPLES OF IDEAS:
- Live synchronous sessions versus asynchronous sessions versus a mix
- Who used some of the previously unexplored features of ZOOM? (break-out rooms, polling, whiteboard & annotation, etc.)
- Who used previous Panopto recordings versus who created new content and/or videos?
- What seemed most successful (or un-successful) in connecting with students and promoting engagement?
2020 Summer Schedule:
All sessions will be held via Zoom at 11:00 am (Pacific time) - unless otherwise stated

Title: What We Learned (from our online teaching experiences) - Part 1

getting highly motivated educators together in a room to talk about teaching and learning - i.e. to share their ideas and practices. So let's do it! Via ZOOM, of course!
This ZOOM meeting will be the first during which we will begin to share our experiences with online teaching this past spring. It still seems very likely that thanks to the novel coronavirus we will all be doing some significant online teaching when classes resume in the fall. In addition, many of us were forced into new methods, including some we'd been wanting to try, and learned a few new things as a result.
