Meet the Class of 2025: Sydney Worley Myers and Andrew Myers

Fourth-year DVM students Sydney Worley Myers and Andrew Myers pose in front of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.

Sydney Worley Myers and Andrew Myers share a lot in common – they both love helping people, their animals and medicine. It’s that passion that’s brought them together and given them someone to lean on in some of veterinary school’s most trying times.

“I always had someone who understood what I was going through. It didn’t matter if my day was good or bad, I knew I always had someone who would understand,” Andrew said.

Months after being accepted into veterinary school, Andrew and Sydney tied the knot. The two met while pursuing their undergraduate degrees at Utah State University, and, through WSU’s regional program in veterinary medicine, were able to complete their first two years of #WSU’s veterinary program at USU before moving to Pullman together.

Andrew plans to own his own large animal ambulatory practice but will focus on emergency medicine until Sydney completes her residency to become a board-certified small animal neurologist.

“I want to gain as much as experience as possible so I can best serve my patients and their people,” Sydney said. “I enjoy explaining the pathophysiology behind complex diseases. managing seizure cases and potentially fixing a problem with surgery. Later in life, I plan on returning to academia to teach in a clinical setting and conduct research as I love helping others learn and pursue their passions in veterinary medicine.”

While the two aren’t afraid to rely on each other, Sydney and Andrew said they look to lean on WSU’s network of experienced medical specialists as well, one of the college’s major perks.

Andrew and Sydney’s love for animals doesn’t stop when they leave the clinic. The couple has five pets at home: two dogs, Cache, a Bernese mountain dog, and Coug, a mixed breed that Sydney adopted after amputating his leg during her preceptorship; two tarantulas, Taco and Tiny Teagan; and a cat, Marble.
