Biography
Dr. Mara S. Varvil serves as the WSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital Clinical Pathology Laboratory Director and Clinical Pathology Resident Coordinator. Dr. Varvil works with clinicians in the WSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital and surrounding area to ensure accurate and timely diagnostic testing and interpretation of a wide variety of species. Dr. Varvil teaches in both the second and fourth years of the WSU DVM program. Her research interests are in diagnostic techniques and methods with the goal of improving accuracy and faster diagnosis times, veterinary and resident education, and the use of digital slide scanning systems in clinical pathology. She is currently working on projects evaluating microRNAs in pituitary adenomas and the development and use of interactive educational modules in teaching. Dr. Varvil is an active member of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists, the American Society of Veterinary Clinical Pathology, WSU CVM’s Teaching Academy, and the Teaching Academy of the Consortium of West Region Colleges of Veterinary Medicine.
