Biography

Dr. John Hinz is the instructor for Biology 107, Washington State University’s large introductory class to Cell Biology and Genetics. He also collaborates with labs in the School of Molecular Biology researching how the processes of DNA repair and gene targeting are impacted by chromatin compaction in cells. Prior to teaching at WSU, Dr. Hinz did research at the Department of Energy’s Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA, where he studied the effects of radioactivity on cells and the mechanisms by which cells repair damage to DNA to prevent mutations, cancer, and cell death.
