Biography
Dr. Korakrit Poonsuk is a Clinical Assistant Professor and Immunodiagnostic Section Head at the Washington Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (WADDL). He obtained his DVM and Master of Science from Chulalongkorn University in Thailand, and his PhD in Veterinary Microbiology with a preventive medicine emphasis from Iowa State University. He is board certified in Veterinary Microbiology (American College of Veterinary Microbiologist; ACVM) and has extensive experience in virology and serology.
Dr. Poonsuk’s research interests focus on diagnostic test development, particularly in serology for viral diseases in livestock. He has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and presented his research at national and international conferences. He has also received funding for his research projects, and has served as a keynote speaker at international infectious disease conferences in Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, China, and the USA.
Dr. Poonsuk believes that research should generate information of use to livestock producers and veterinarians, and he has experience working with a variety of classical, emerging, and foreign animal pathogens of livestock. He also has experience with laboratory techniques in BSL-2 and BSL-3 veterinary diagnostic laboratories.
In addition to his research, Dr. Poonsuk has served the needs of local and regional livestock practitioners by conducting research projects and working with state agencies in response to emerging viral and prion diseases in animals.
