The 62,000-square-foot, three-story flagship research building houses a state-of-the-art infectious disease research center for investigating emerging diseases throughout the world. The award winning Allen Center uses state-of-the-art energy management and sustainability strategies and is a LEED Silver standard design utilizing open space and making inviting work spaces.
Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) labs house up-to-date equipment and materials, and the building’s design placed special emphasis on making seamless transitions between the labs and open workspaces facilitating interactions between research teams. The Allen Center also has one of the few Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) facilities on the west coast. The resources are shared with the Washington Animal Disease Diagnostic Lab (WADDL).
