Biography

  • Director, Animal Production Core

Dr. Miranda Bernhardt directs the WSU Animal Production Core within CVM’s Center for Reproductive Biology. The Core provides services to support the generation and preservation of gene-edited animal research models for investigators at WSU and beyond. In collaboration with WSU’s Gene Editing Reagent Core, they provide full-service gene-editing from concept to live animals, and well-established protocols are in place for sperm and embryo cryopreservation, embryo transfer, line rederivation, embryo microinjection and electroporation, in vitro fertilization, and other reproductive biology services. Most current services are performed in mice; however, requests for additional species and techniques are welcome. In addition, Dr. Bernhardt is committed to research in reproductive biology focused on elucidating mechanisms of oocyte maturation, fertilization, and activation of embryonic development. Her group will continue to work toward translating basic science discoveries to applications in development of genetic model organisms, agriculture, and clinical assisted reproductive technology.
