Hometown: Tucson, AZ; Anchorage, AK; Deming, NM

Undergraduate Degree: Veterinary Science, Molecular & Cellular Biology (University of Arizona)

Area of Interest: Small Animal General Practice

Maya Boyle’s path to veterinary medicine began with her very own turtle named Pistachio.

Caring for her red-eared slider sparked an early interest in reptile medicine, but as she became more involved in the field, that interest grew. “I discovered there were so many things I enjoyed about it – including the people, the medicine, and the lifelong dedication to learning.”

Maya plans to begin her career in small animal general practice, with the goal of continuing to expand her skills across species and settings.

At the Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine, she has embraced every opportunity to explore the breadth of the profession. With many interests in the veterinary field, she hopes to “get to do everything at least once” in her career. She said the college’s supportive faculty, residents, interns, technicians, and staff have played a pivotal role in helping her check off many firsts in the field already, including her team on Pharmacy where she has worked for her entire time in veterinary school.

Outside of clinics, Maya enjoys kayaking, hiking, archery, and anything ocean-related – especially snorkeling.

She shares her home with a lively crew of animals, including three dogs, a cat, an axolotl, and Pistachio, who started it all.
