Growing up on a fifth-generation family farm in southeastern Idaho, Allan Moulton developed an appreciation for agriculture, livestock, and the important role veterinarians play in supporting rural communities.
His family farm included both beef and dairy cattle, and shire horses became a staple after his father inherited two mares from Allan’s great-grandfather. Those experiences shaped Allan’s connection with animals and guided him toward a career in veterinary medicine.
“I wanted a career in agriculture and around animals, but I also wanted to be able to provide for a family,” Allan said. “I started following my uncle around and liked the life he lived, so I chose to follow him and start my journey into veterinary medicine.”
At Washington State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, Allan has continued building the skills needed to serve large animal patients, with particular interests in equine sports medicine and reproduction.
He credits WSU faculty and clinicians with helping him grow as a future veterinarian.
“Some of the professors and clinicians have become great mentors and friends,” he said.
After graduation, Allan plans to return to Idaho and work in mixed-animal practice while continuing to pursue his interests.
When he is not in the classroom or the clinic, Allan enjoys spending time with his wife, Kassdee, and three children; being outdoors on the family farm; watching college and international wrestling; following Yankees baseball; and caring for his quarter horse mare, Jules. He also enjoys sharing a song in Navajo that he learned to sing to his children at bedtime.
