Meet the Class of 2027: Emily Evans

Hometown: Fort Shaw, Montana
Undergraduate Degree: Microbiology (Montana State University)
Area of Interest: Small Animal Surgery

For Emily Evans, veterinary medicine combines her love of science with the challenge of solving a clinical puzzle.

“I love the clinical application of anatomy and physiology as well as the unique dynamic that comes from the owner and pet relationship that you can’t find anywhere else,” she said.

After graduation, Emily, passionate about small animal surgery, plans to pursue a small animal rotating internship through the VIRMP match program with the goal of eventually completing a small animal surgery residency. She hopes to return to Montana and provide in-house specialty surgery services at general practices across the state, increasing access to advanced procedures in rural communities.

Emily said WSU’s Simulation-Based Education program has been especially valuable in preparing her for a career in veterinary medicine, giving her opportunities to practice medical decision-making in a low-stakes environment.

Outside of veterinary medicine, Emily enjoys watercolor painting, sketching and traveling. She also has cats, chickens and ponies back home in Montana. In Pullman, she shares her life with Garrett, a 3-year-old guinea pig adopted by her Montana cohort after their first-year exotics lab.
