Long before she learned advanced clinical procedures, Sage Levora discovered one of the most important skills a veterinarian can have is communication.
At Washington State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, Sage says the hands-on learning opportunities have prepared her for practice, but the college’s communication program has had an equally lasting impact.
“It really shifted my goals and how I speak with clients,” she said. “Those skills are invaluable.”
Sage plans to pursue a career in small animal general practice and emergency medicine after graduation, beginning with a rotating internship through Hippo Veterinary Group before eventually settling in the Southwest.
Her passion for veterinary medicine, however, started much earlier.
“I have always been drawn to animals and felt such a kinship for them,” she said. “Dedicating my life to their care and well-being felt like the most natural thing in the world to me. I am so lucky to have found a career that doesn’t feel like work and to spend my life doing something I find so fulfilling.”
The friendships she’s built at WSU have become one of the most meaningful parts of her veterinary school experience.
“I wouldn’t trade them for the world,” she said.
Outside the classroom, Sage enjoys golfing, identifying birds with the Merlin Bird ID app, relaxing near the water with friends, and spending time with her three rescue cats—Chuck Taylor, Bucket, and Butter—each with a memorable story of how they became permanent members of her family.
