About the Artist: Heather Brurud

Heather is currently a 3rd year veterinary student at WSU and is scheduled to graduate in May, 2011. She grew up 60 miles north of Pullman in the small farming town of Spangle, Washington.

Heather studied Zoology at WSU and became an active member of the WSU Raptor Club. As a Raptor Club officer, she began photographing the club’s birds to help with fundraising efforts. Soon after, she started entering her pictures in photography contests on campus. Her photo, Sunning, won best in show in 2007 and Two of a Kind was picked for people’s choice the following year in the WSU Outdoor Recreation Center’s annual photo contest.

Heather takes her camera along with her everywhere she goes. She is always getting left behind by her friends and family while she stops to photograph anything and everything. Heather describes her photos as a whole lot of patience and a little bit of luck.

Prior to vet school, Heather worked in the Exotics and Wildlife Ward at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. This is where she became interested in exotic animal medicine and wildlife rehabilitation. This is the path she hopes to follow after graduation.
