Meet the Class of 2023: Haley Garcia

Helping people makes Haley Garcia feel accomplished, and it is what led her to the veterinary field.

“Working with pets and seeing what good I can do, and seeing my work improve lives in real time, keeps me motivated,” she said.

Shortly after graduation, Haley will head home to Las Vegas to work at a small animal general practice, but she’s not alone.

“WSU has taught me how the veterinary field is about supporting each other. Lean on your colleagues and don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it,” she said. “My classmates have taught me that I’m not alone.”

Haley is a Nevada WICHE scholarship recipient and received the Dr. Robert and Mrs. Janice Olds Scholarship in 2020. She also served as the treasurer of Canine Club and as the vice president of the Animal Behavior Club.

Haley said her favorite thing is her dog Barry, a 5-year-old French bulldog “who is my whole heart.” Named after the Flash, Barry is speedy and full of attitude. “I show him off whenever I can,” Haley said.

Haley is a foodie. Her favorite spots are Sella’s for the cowboy BBQ pizza, My Office for the chicken wings, and the Pie Safe in Deary, Idaho, for the best baked goods and cheese. The Pie Safe is also her favorite study spot.

Fun Fact: Haley played the French horn from sixth grade all the way through undergrad, and she was the first chair in the All-State Orchestra!
