Growing up, Brittany White found herself inspired by veterinarians, especially the ones on Animal Planet’s hit television show “Animal Precinct” in which unsheltered and neglected animals were rescued and received much-needed veterinary care.
“I loved seeing the dogs and cats that were brought into the vet leave with a brand-new positive outlook on life,” Brittany said. “I would love to be able to help local shelters while I work in small animal medicine or one day work full time helping shelter animals.”
That opportunity has never been closer. Despite never having lived in Arizona, Brittany will be starting a non-traditional small animal rotating internship in Surprise, Arizona, after graduation.
Brittany said WSU’s communication course, which teaches veterinary students how to communicate with clients and teammates, equipped her with the skills to communicate effectively in a team setting, but her time playing basketball for the University of Providence in Great Falls, Montana, also contributed to her ability to communicate with others.
Brittany played three seasons for the Argos and was named to the Frontier Conference All-Academic Team her senior year.
Brittany said her favorite surgery experience so far was her junior spay surgery.
“I ended up adopting my spay dog, Rosie, who is the best girl with the most personality I have ever experienced in a dog,” Brittany said. “She gives the best side eyes when she is upset, the cutest howls when I come home from work, and the funniest pounce when she is playing with her ball.”
Brittany has two Chihuahua mixes, 3-year-old Rosie and 8-year-old Ralph, who was adopted in Brittany’s first year of veterinary school.
