Hometown: Helena, Montana

Undergraduate Degree: Anthrozoology (Carroll College)

Area of Interest: Small Animal General Practice and Critical Care, Equine Medicine

Born and raised in Montana, Brittany Carlson has always blended a love of animals with a passion for people. After earning her undergraduate degree in anthrozoology from Carroll College — where she also played shortstop for the softball team — she came to WSU to pursue her dream of becoming a veterinarian.

Now in her final year, Brittany plans to pursue small animal general practice or emergency medicine. She has a job lined up at Riverview Animal Clinic in Clarkston, Washington.

“What I’m most grateful for at WSU is our communication curriculum,” she said. “Thanks to the incredible faculty who run the program, I’m leaving here confident in talking to clients and colleagues.”

Outside of school, Brittany can often be found on the golf course with her husband, the head golf professional at Lewiston Country Club, or cheering on the Cougs at a game — an atmosphere she describes as “indescribable.”

At home, she’s surrounded by her rescued pets: Hobbes, a 7-year-old great Dane; CJ, a 5-year-old German shepherd mix; and Halo, her 8-month-old kitten.

Fun Fact: Brittany is a Crocs superfan. “Highly underrated shoe. I don’t wear anything else.”
