Dr. Vishal Murthy is a faculty member in the hospital’s Neurology and Neurosurgery service.  He completed his residency training in veterinary neurology and neurosurgery from the University of California, Davis in 2019. Dr. Murthy enjoys working with clinical patients and their families as well as training students, interns, and residents. He has a strong interest in diseases of the brain, like epilepsy and brings neurosurgical expertise to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. He is also interested in better understanding how people learn and how novel teaching tools can be applied to improve teaching in veterinary neurology.

  • Identification of physiologic, imaging, and molecular biomarkers for brain and spinal cord diseases
  • Use of electroencephalography (EEG) in diagnosis and management of seizures, movement disorders and sleep disorders
  • Treatment and prognostication of spinal cord injury
  • Evaluation of learner attitudes and application of teaching innovations in veterinary neurology
