Prevention and control of emerging infectious diseases in eastern and central Africa

Center for Research in Emerging Infectious Diseases

The Center for Research in Emerging Infectious Diseases (CREID) in Nairobi, Kenya, was created to address emerging infectious diseases in eastern and central Africa.

As part of WSU’s Global Health – Kenya, our scientists and global partners conduct research to characterize new pathogens, develop diagnostic reagents, and support clinical and socio-cultural research to implement more effective prevention and control measures for emerging infectious diseases.

The center will address significant knowledge gaps in current research regarding what drives disease emergence, while considering high human density, diversity of wildlife species, and forest vegetation as key factors.

CREID partners

Local, regional, and international partners are critical to the center’s success.

  • Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia
  • Washington University at St. Louis, Missouri
  • Charité-Universitätsmedizin, Berlin, Germany
