Custom prosthetic gives donkey a big leg up on life

Home for the holidays and back on her feet — thanks to a custom prosthetic from WSU veterinarians, a miniature donkey named Elsa is getting a second chance at life.

Fourth-year veterinary student Corey Phillips always knew he wanted a career where he could serve others in some of their most difficult moments. Drawn to equine orthopedic and GI surgery, Corey says he’s motivated by the chance to help both animals and the people who care for them.

Modulating key interaction prevents virus from entering cells

WSU researchers have found a way to block a molecular interaction, preventing viruses from entering cells where they can cause illness — a discovery that could lay the groundwork for new antiviral treatments.
