Ambassador spotlight: Jessica Horan

Are you considering WSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine? Our student ambassadors are available to provide insight into our Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program.

With interests in equine and ag animals, third-year veterinary student Jessica Horan is passionate about connecting with applicants who share similar passions. She is also excited about preparing students to enter the program, sharing her own experiences, and talking about all the program has to offer.

“I serve as an ambassador because I have a passion for helping people – especially in areas that I would have loved to know more about earlier in the veterinary school process, like how third and fourth year at WSU were scheduled and what the elective classes were,” Jessica said.

Now in her second year as a WSU ambassador, Jessica has thoroughly enjoyed meeting with prospective students. One of 10 students in the Class of 2025 who completed their first year of the veterinary curriculum at Montana State University, Jessica brings a wide perspective of the program, as she can speak to the hands-on experiences in Pullman and for first-year students in Bozeman.

“One of my most exciting and practical experiences was the American Association of Equine Practitioners Dental Lab in which we listened to informative lectures then got hands-on practice with power floats on horses,” Jessica said.

While Jessica’s interest lies with equine and ag animals, one of her favorite aspects of WSU’s regional program in veterinary medicine is that there are no tracks.

“You learn about all the species, which provides a large amount of variety,” Jessica said. “You get something new here every day.”
