Ambassador spotlight: Jonah Wisen

Are you considering WSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine? Our student ambassadors are available to provide insight into our Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program.

Going on his sixth year in Pullman, second-year veterinary student Jonah Wisen knows the scoop on the WSU Pullman campus and all the small-town hotspots, and he’s also available to talk to anyone interested in the WSU’s veterinary program.

The mixed animal veterinarian-to-be is quite familiar with WSU’s Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program, as he’s served as a mentor at the first-year veterinary student orientation, a college peer tutor, and a teaching assistant for the Optional Clinical Skills Laboratory (OCSL).

“The OCSL has been the most meaningful experience for me thus far,” Jonah said. “I never miss a session and I always go out of my way to learn something new and exciting I would otherwise not have had the opportunity to do for several years.”

Jonah said the program’s community aspect was a major selling point.

“Pullman is a small college town, which builds a sense of togetherness and makes it really easy to make friends, which is essential for success in veterinary school,” Jonah said. “I haven’t attended other programs, but I doubt any of them do as well as WSU does when it comes to community building.”

The activities the Palouse area offers were another plus for Jonah.

“I played on five intramural teams this year and vet students were a part of all of the teams,” he said. “I ski, mountain bike, play soccer, basketball, baseball, golf, disc golf, camp, hike, fish, and swim, and I can do all of it on the Palouse.”
