Served as dean 2009 – 2019

  • Faculty member at the college for more than 25 years from 1992-2019.
  • Association of Public and Land-grant Universities liaison for the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges from 2017 to present (seat on the Board of Directors of AAVMC).
  • Board of director at the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle, Wash. serving on the Education Committee and the Animal Care Committee since 2010.
  • Executive associate dean and chair of the Department of Veterinary and Comparative Anatomy, Pharmacology, and Physiology (VCAPP), now called the Department of Integrative Physiology and Neuroscience (IPN) from 1999-2008.
  • Research focuses on heart and cardiac muscle function, has more than 50 publications in books and scientific journals, and received an Established Investigator Award from the American Heart Association.
  • Elected as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in 2008.
  • Assistant professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Vermont from 1986–1992.
  • Elected as a Fellow of the Cardiovascular Section of the American Physiological Society in 1987.
  • Postdoctoral fellow at the Cardiovascular Research Institute of the University of California, San Francisco from 1982-1985.
  • WSU alumnus earning a DVM in 1980 (magna cum laude), and a PhD in 1982.
  • Earned a Bachelor of Science in Zoology (sum cum laude) from the College of Idaho in 1976.
