I have always enjoyed welcoming in the New Year and this year is no exception. No big parties (although sometimes I do make it to midnight and sometimes there is dancing) and no grand resolutions. However, there is always ample reflection. And yes, some goal setting.
This year I have reflected on my personal journey as a dean and on the steadfast, forward journey of the college. 2024 was a big year, a really big year. It started with developing and articulating our strategic plan; the middle was abuzz with planning for and hosting our college’s 125th anniversary celebration; and we ended with a hectic but gratifying accreditation site visit for our professional veterinary medical program. And, as I wrote about last month, I decided to add a journey to our Africa-based programs — which was an immersive reminder of one of the reasons I chose WSU as my personal and professional home about five years ago. As you read our news stories, you will see how our college faculty, staff, and students excel at innovation. We say yes, we find a way.
I have also set some goals, but they will wait until we fully ring in the New Year and we have spent these last moments with friends and family. To our local and extended college community, thank you for your deep connection to our college and our mission. Happy New Year.
