Meet the Class of 2023: Janelle Thomas

Janelle Thomas, a second-year veterinary student at Washington State University, is interested in small animal practice, a potential specialty in Orthopedics or Neurology, as well as involvement in organized veterinary medicine (AVMA and WSVMA). Originally from Las Vegas, NV, Janelle attended WSU as an undergraduate and received a degree in Animal Science- she is VERY familiar with the Palouse!

She has always wanted to be a veterinarian and is passionate about making a difference at her school and community. As a veterinary student, she is the Senior Delegate for SAVMA, the student government at WSU- in this position, she represents WSU at national conferences, akin to a senator’s role. She is also the student liaison to the AVMA Animal Welfare Committee, a topic she is very passionate about. Janelle enjoys leadership on her class officer board as the fundraising chair, as well as the secretary for Feline Club. Her favorite club is Shelter Medicine as it has given her some incredible hands-on opportunities. Janelle was also the recipient of the AVMF/Merck Animal Health scholarship, recognized for her academic achievements, and contributions to her school and community.

When she graduates in 2024, Janelle intends to practice on the west side of Washington to be closer to the ocean. In her “free time”, she enjoys being outdoors, baking, and hanging out with friends, her partner, and feline fur baby, Jonesy.
