Meet the Class of 2024: Courtney Durfee

Early in her veterinary studies, Courtney Durfee wanted to do primarily equine medicine, but now in her final year of WSU’s Doctor of Veterinary Medicine curriculum, she’s considering either small or mixed practice, likely in western Washington.

“Medicine is so much fun. I love the thought that goes into the process of finding out what’s wrong and how you could fix it. Of course, I love the animals too,” she said.

Originally from Arizona, Courtney completed her undergraduate degree at Scottsdale Community College and the University of Arizona.

She said her time at WSU has been impactful.

“Professors and clinicians have all been fantastic teachers, trying to get us as hands-on as possible when it comes to learning, and that proves to be really helpful when vet school is your only chance to do things without fear of failure,” Courtney said.

Outside the halls of the veterinary school and Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Courtney can be found at Terracotta making handmade pottery; at the Grub Truck in Moscow, (which she refers to as simply “the Mac ‘N Cheese Truck;” or at home watering her indoor plant garden that is very well could be unmatched by her peers in the class of 2024.

She also has two domestic shorthair cats, Lilly, 12, and Taro 3; a bearded dragon, Hamilton; a leopard gecko, Squash; and an aquarium.
