Maddy Boehland’s journey in veterinary medicine is fueled by a love for the human-animal bond and a desire to nurture that connection throughout her career.
“I want to be the caretaker of that bond and use medicine to keep pets healthy and their owners happy for as long as possible,” she said.
Originally from Meridian, Idaho, Maddy has made Pullman her home while pursuing her undergraduate and veterinary degrees. Maddy is on track to earn both in just seven years through the WSU Honors College’s 7-Year early acceptance program.
“WSU has given me a solid foundation of knowledge that I can build on for the rest of my career,” she said. “I’ve also developed vital communication skills and forged lasting friendships with my colleagues that I hope to maintain for years to come.”
Looking ahead, Maddy is eager to work in small animal medicine, with an interest in emergency and shelter medicine.
“While I don’t have solid job plans yet, I’m hoping to find a position on the west side where it rains more!” she said.
In her free time, Maddy loves spending time with her fellow veterinary students, whether it’s shopping, baking, paddle boarding, or simply enjoying meals together.
“I also love cuddling with my two kittens, Marshall and Kelly,” she said.
One of her favorite spots near campus is the WSU Bear Center.
“The bears are such characters, and I love stopping by to see them on my way home from school. I also used to feed them during undergrad, so I have great memories hanging out with those fluffy cuties,” Maddy said.
Fun fact: Maddy received an award at junior revue called “Everyone’s Friend,” but she’s equally proud of her starring role in the global phenomenon “SPAY: A BARBIE PARODY.”
