Are you considering WSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine? Our student ambassadors are available to provide insight into our Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program.

Second-year veterinary student Abby Hayden is an enthusiastic ambassador for the program and passionate about helping aspiring students.

Abby’s interests span agricultural animals, equine care, and large animals. When considering veterinary schools, Abby said she wanted to make sure she found the right fit. She was drawn to WSU by the program’s tight-knit community, dedicated faculty, and numerous opportunities for unique experiences. “After extensive research, I felt confident that WSU is where I was supposed to be,” she said.

Abby said one thing that makes WSU’s program special is the abundance of clubs, extracurriculars, and opportunities for involvement. She’s an active participant in the Ag Animal Club, a local church group, and the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP). “From radiology rounds, Raptor Club, Theriogenology Club, and employment opportunities,” she said, “there are many ways to explore specific interests and branch out into other areas.”

One of Abby’s most meaningful experiences in the program has been the COLE orientation before the first year. “Besides the fun activities,” she said, “it was an impactful time for getting to know my classmates.”

After graduating with her DVM, Abby wants to be a mentor and example for others. “I hope to move back home and use my career as a veterinarian to help the next generation of vet students have amazing experiences like I did,” she said.

For incoming students, Abby offers valuable advice — branch out. “Try different clubs and activities and manage your time well to make room for relaxation and personal interests,” she said.
