Are you considering WSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine? Our student ambassadors are available to provide insight into our Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program.

Emma Impala knows the stress and self-doubt that can come with applying to veterinary school. As someone who just went through the application process a year ago while completing her undergraduate degree at WSU Pullman, Emma said it’s OK if your resume is unlike your peers’ — a diverse range of experience is most critical.

“Everyone’s journey to veterinary school is different and just because one person might have something different on their resume, does not mean another person is any less qualified,” Emma said.

Emma wants her route to veterinary school to aid applicants who are hoping to venture down a similar path. She also wants to be a friendly face to recently admitted students.

“I hope to be a resource to potential applicants and answer any questions they may have, whether it be how to start their application, what kind of experience I gained in my undergraduate education and how I continue that in vet school, or how to maintain a healthy school-life balance,” Emma said.

She maintains her school-life balance by walking her dog, Moose, and reading before bed.

Emma is an avid equestrian and Washington state native who plans to pursue mixed-animal practice. She chose WSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine because of the school’s experience providing agricultural medicine in a rural setting.

As a veterinary student, Emma has also found significant opportunities for growth at WSU’s Optional Clinical Skills Laboratory, which is open to any veterinary student, intern, or resident in the program.

“It was such a unique opportunity that most first-year veterinary students do not have access to during an academic year that is predominantly lecture-based,” she said. “It was a wonderful outlet to remind myself why I am here and why I am so passionate about veterinary medicine.”
