During the week-long training being held this week, students work with practicing veterinarians, many of them WSU alumni, to diagnose and treat cases featuring volunteer clients and stuffed animal patients.
In total, WSU donors made 1,419 gifts for $468,584 during Wednesday’s 24-hour event. Donations spanned 97 unique funding areas of the WSU system, with every campus and college receiving donor support on the day.
This year, 35 veterinarians returned to Pullman to coach WSU veterinary students at the annual Diagnostic Challenges.
The Diagnostic Challenges is a series of simulated case-based exercises featuring real-life experiences with volunteer clients and stuffed patients.
Once a participant in the fourth Diagnostic Challenges, 26 years later Dr. Jeffrey Abbott will lead the program.
His return to WSU was driven by his love of teaching.
