Meet the Class of 2022: Kalyn Wees

Kalyn Wees wanted to go to medical school, but after working in a human clinic as a scribe she realized she would rather help people in a different field of medicine. Come May, Kalyn will be a second-generation veterinarian, following in the footsteps of her mom. “I’ve always had veterinary medicine in my life and I love working with people to help their pets and critters feel their best,” she said.

Kalyn and her husband, Jamie, recently bought a home in Rathdrum, Idaho. Kalyn is hoping to work at a small mixed animal practice with access to small ruminant care in Hayden, Idaho. “Because I absolutely love goats,” she said. Kalyn and Jamie met at the University of Idaho, where Kalyn earned her biology/pre-medicine degree, all the while performing at events and bars as part of a reggae-inspired band known as Simba and the Exceptional Africans.

In her spare time, Kalyn enjoys hiking, mountain biking (especially on Moscow Mountain), camping, fly fishing, and sitting in her hammock drinking coffee. She said her favorite thing is anything she gets to do with her husband, and it’s even better when their two Australian shepherds, Bodie, 7; and Benson, 2, are in tow. They also have George, a 3-year-old domestic shorthair cat they love dearly.
