Meet the Class of 2024: Britt Dixon

All through high school, despite his dad’s advice, it was never Britt Dixon’s initial plan to be a veterinarian. As it would turn out, his dad was right. Last month Britt accepted an equine surgery and sports medicine internship at Texas Equine Hospital in Bryan, Texas.

Initially uncertain about veterinary medicine and if it was the right fit for him, working at a veterinary clinic in Clovis, New Mexico for veterinarian and WSU alumni Dr. Logan Potts changed his mind.

“After day one on the job, I knew I had learned the difference between a job and a calling and that one day I’d be a veterinarian,” Britt said. “I learned what the profession entails from a phenomenal doctor and an even better person. To be a veterinarian isn’t just playing with puppies and trotting horses, it’s being a servant to your community through compassion and genuine empathy for every one of God’s creations.”

Britt’s goal is to become a mixed animal practitioner with a focus on equine sports medicine.

“Famous” among the class of 2024 for his Dr. Pepper consumption, he’s also known for his meat judging experience.

Britt traveled across the United States and even to Australia for meat and livestock evaluation contests during his undergraduate tenure. He was even a marking member for the 2019 national and world champion meat judging teams while at Texas Tech University.

Britt said his time at WSU has allowed him to cultivate a network of friends and colleagues who have helped him grow as a person and a soon-to-be veterinarian.

“They have pushed me and given me the knowledge to make educated decisions when dealing with patients and the people that love them enough to bring them to my clinic,” Britt said.

Fun Fact: Britt has a 2-year-old chocolate Labrador named Ruger (or Chocolate Thunder to those who have met him).  Britt adopted him immediately after his first Clinical Pathology test in his second year of veterinary school because nothing says “vet student” like raising a puppy.
